Overview

Cosprop has been owned and managed by Academy Award winning costume designer and costumier John Bright since it was set up in 1965. The company has now expanded to employ fifty staff at our North London base. The service we offer to costume designers is to realise their creative brief on a production by providing authentic, high quality period costume for hire.

The creation of a set of costumes for a production begins with a discussion between the designer and our costumiers. Once the requirements for a project are agreed upon, we will work together with the designer and their team to select appropriate items from our stock. Our Costumiers are very knowledgeable about the correct way to construct an entire outfit. They are able to advise about the underpinnings that are needed and any appropriate accessories. We have a team of alterations specialists who can ensure each garment is fitted perfectly to the actor.

If new bespoke items are needed then we can make these in our workrooms. John Bright and the workroom team dressmakers and tailors are able to help with creating the desired look for the designer, with particular knowledge of period silhouettes and how to achieve them. We have a store of fabrics and samples that can be used to help with this selection.

In addition to working with film, TV and Theatre productions, we also offer an exhibition service of our most iconic costumes for museums and historical houses to hire.
